THE ROLE:?We have an exciting opportunity to support the men and
women who are supported by Kingsriver to go for what they want in
life. This role involves supporting people across day and residential
services to engage in the community throughout the day and also to
support the development of skills of everyday living in the home.
THE PERSON:?We are looking for good communicators/ tutors/
facilitators who have the interest and ability to join the team
supporting the men and women of Kingsriver to get into the community
and pursue what they want in life, along with developing the key
skills of everyday living.
EXAMPLES OF WHAT PEOPLE WANT ARE:?Daily living and independence
skills, money management skills, meaningful relationships and real
opportunities to work, choose and achieve preferred living
arrangements, leisure activities, domestic and personal hygiene, time
management (this is not an exhaustive list).
Also, support with; communication, socialising, friendship building,
supported travelling skills, training, support in developing
interests/activities.
THIS ROLE IS TO SUPPORT INDIVIDUALS IN ALL ASPECTS OF THEIR LIVES AND
PROVIDE A PERSON-CENTRED, ROLE DRIVEN, PROGRAMME. TO DELIVER
INDIVIDUALISED FACILITATION IN ASPECTS OF PARTICIPANTS PURSUING GOALS
AND TO ALLOW PARTICIPANTS TO DEVELOP THEIR SKILLS TO BECOMING
INCREASINGLY INDEPENDENT IN THEIR LIVES.
CANDIDATES SHOULD HAVE THE FOLLOWING:
* A minimum of Fetac /QQI level 5 Qualification e.g.
Education/Teaching/Social Care/ HCA/ Training or similar.
* Commitment to a Person-Centred Planning approach and knowledge of
Social Role Valorisation.
* The ability to identify and develop people?s natural support
networks, work and social roles.
* The ability to facilitate and support participants, including
people with complex needs, in both service based and community based
roles and activities.
* Knowledge of relevant national legislation and policy e.g. New
Directions, HIQA, Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults at Risk of Abuse.
* Excellent communication, organisational, interpersonal and
teamworking skills.
* Must have a full clean manual driving license (please be advised
that this is essential for the role and must be stated clearly in your

ROLE DESCRIPTION
* The position requires a high degree of understanding and commitment
to the participants and residents of Kingsriver. The prime
consideration at all times must be for the welfare and well-being of
the people supported. This position requires a high degree of
professionalism.
* Confidentiality with regard to participants, residents and staff
is of upmost importance.
* The staff member must believe that the person has the right to
live and participate in the community equally with other people. While
various levels of support are available to the social care staff the
person will, in some cases, be working on their own in the residents'
house or in the community.
* The staff member, in co-operation with the relevant line manager
and the Person In Charge will be responsible for the overall growth
and direction of people supported by the services, working by the
ethos of Kingsriver.
* The person appointed must be highly responsible and reliable, be
competent in household management and have the ability to create and
maintain a homely and supportive environment.
* The position requires a maturity enabling the person to resolve
conflict and have the ability to understand and empower people with
sometimes quite divergent points of view.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* To be responsible for training, assisting, supervising and
monitoring personal development of participants and residents in the
following areas:-
Budgeting, laundry, meal planning and preparation, household cleaning,
creating shopping lists, shopping, yard and lawn maintenance,
interpersonal skills, developing relationships, personal appearance,
hygiene, time management, social skills and communication skills.
* To assist people supported by the services to participate in
community events
* To work with people supported by the services to achieve their
lifestyle plans, with an individual focus.
* To encourage the development of individual friendships for
household members and support each person to share with the other
participants and residents and their community his/her talents, ideas,
feelings, desires and aspirations.
* To respond practically to the physical, recreational, leisure,
emotional, cultural and spiritual needs of each resident.
* To foster a spirit of ?welcome for all? who come to the
community home e.g. people supported by the services, families,
neighbours and guests.
* To hold meetings in the home and ensure that decisions are arrived
at in a spirit of co-operation and to empower people supported by the
services to speak up for themselves to make their own decisions and
choices.
* To ensure birthdays and days of special importance to people
supported by the services are celebrated and that special seasonable
celebrations take place.
* To arrange annual holidays and weekend breaks for people supported
by the services.
* To arrange medical, dental, optical, auditory appointments for
people supported by the services, when required.
* To ensure that people supported by the services monies are
accounted for and recorded as appropriate.
* To maintain people supported by the services files and to collect
and record relevant data e.g. personal issues into people supported by
the services file, incident reports, monthly reports and annual
reports.
* To attend meetings as required, including case conferences, house
meetings, supervision and staff meetings.
* To work closely with members of the multi-disciplinary team and
other colleagues in the organisation.
* To comply with the guidelines, policies and procedures of the
Kingsriver Services Ireland.
* To be responsible for household finances and to maintain household
accounts.
* To ensure all fire, health and safety regulations are adhered to.
* To liaise with outside agencies as appropriate.
* To carry out driving duties as required.
* To attend training when required.
* You are required to establish and maintain relationships with the
individuals who use our services that are based on respect and
equality and that promote their independence.
* To carry out any other duties as may be assigned from time to time
by the Director of services.
* You must hold a Full Clean Driving License as you are required to
be willing and able to drive Kingsriver vehicles.
